Aluminum

I start with a patch of color!

Douglas Squarek, Hillcrest Mine Desaster commission.

Winning the juried competiton to create art work for the 100 anniversary of the  Hillcrest Mine Disaster, in 2014, convinced me to look at my graphic art more seriously. 189 giclee prints were produced and sold.

Douglas Squarek, Wave Spirit, dye sublimation on aluminum.

I think of my graphic design work, which is now exclusively on aluminum panels, as sculpting in color.

Douglas Squarek, Wave Spirit, vectors!

I use a simple vector program. It is one I am sure you all know, PowerPoint. I follow a simple layering technique, sculpting and layering each patch of color, one over the other, until my design tells its story. As with Wave Spirit  shown here, there is no AI computer magic, just oddles of time, a vivid imagination, and lot of patience.

Dye Sublimation on Aluminum

Douglas Squarek, aluminum panels.

I use a modern printing technique that infuses archival dyes directly into aluminum panels using heat and pressure. The finished product has a robust, modern no-frame look, and comes with a pre-installed hanging mechanism on the back.

I offer two or three sizes, depending on the art work.

Numbered Series

All of my grahic art is numbered, cataloged, and signed, and come with a certificate of authenticity.
